UPDATE: National police Service Spokesperson Resila Onyango has confirmed that the driver of an Isuzu FRR who was driving from Kikuyu, lost control leading to a head on collision with another oncoming track along the Southern Bypass.
Both drivers died on the spot while another driver was burnt beyond recognition when the trailer burst into flames.
Two people have been confirmed dead and three have sustained serious injuries after a trailer burst into flames along the Southern Bypass following an accident.
The truck burst into flames next to two other trucks that were also involved in the multiple-vehicle accident. Preliminary reports have indicated that several people were rescued from the burning tracks.
Well-wishers and bystanders rushed to the scene as traffic jam began to build up along the route from Ole Sereni towards Langata.
One of the lorries was completely destroyed from the front with glass shattered and doors bent from the impact of the heat.
At the same time, a separate track, which was on fire, was completely burnt with a huge smoke coming from the charred pieces of metal remaining at the scene.
However, first responders had not arrived at the scene at the time this article was published.
Motorists plying the route advised others to use alternative routes where possible and avoid the traffic jam.

Earlier Accident Along Mombasa Road
In July 21, a Nakamata Sacco bus overturned along Mombasa Road at Gateway Mall, leading to several injuries.
In videos seen by The Kenya Times, good Samaritans around the area were seen rescuing passengers trapped in the bus as they waited for first responders.
However, witnesses at the scene stated that there were no deaths reported adding that passengers with injuries were rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Moreover, a passenger who was pulled out of the overturned bus narrated that the driver was distracted moments before the accident.
According to the witness, the driver kept reaching out for something that was stuck under his seat, causing him to lose control of the bus.

NTSA Latest Statistics on Accidents
Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicates that between January 1 to April 30, 2024, road accidents have claimed 1554 lives, with pedestrians being ranked as the most vulnerable road users.
A total number 574 fatalities from the accidents were pedestrians, with motorcyclists following closely at 356 and passengers at 329.
On the other hand, at least 134 drivers have died in the first four months of 2024 while pillion passengers recorded 129 deaths.
According to NTSA, March was the deadliest recording 403 road fatalities followed by the month of April with 388 deaths.
