Kilgoris Member of Parliament Julius Ole Sunkuli has announced the death of former Kilgoris MP Gideon Konchela.
In a statement on June 13, Sunkuli mourned the former legislator as both his predecessor and successor in the constituency.
“I have sadly learned of the death of Honourable Gideon Konchela, former MP for Kilgoris constituency. The late Konchela was both my successor as well as my predecessor,” read part of the statement.
“He served Kilgoris for 20 years, but the cruel hand of death has taken his life. May God rest him in eternal peace.”
According to Education Principal Secretary Jonhn Ololtuaa the late Konchela died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.
He further added that the late former legislator had been unwell since November last year.
Profile of the Late Gideon Konchela
The late Konchela served as the Member of Parliament for Kilgoris from March 10, 2013, to July 16, 2017.
He also served earlier as MP for Kilgoris from 2003 to March 4, 2007, and again from March 4, 2007, to March 4, 2013.
The late Konchela held the position of Minister of Immigration and Registration of Persons from 2006 to 2007.
He was a member of the Party of National Unity from February 8, 2007, to February 8, 2013.
Kochela later joined the United Republican Party on February 8, 2013, where he remained until 2016, and also served as a member of the Jubilee Alliance from February 13, 2013, to 2016.

He has served in various parliamentary committees, including the Departmental Committee on Public Works, Roads and Transport from 2013 to 2017, the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare from 2008 to 2012, and the Local Authorities Committee from 2008 to 2012.
The late politician contested the Kilgoris parliamentary seat as an aspirant MP from February 8, 2013, to March 4, 2013, and again from June 1, 2017, to August 8, 2017.
Kochela also worked as Commander at KAOC Kahawa, Kenya from 1991 to 2002.
Previously he served as a Military Officer, holding the roles of Commander and Logistics Officer in the Department of Defence from 1987 to 1991.
Additionally, he also served as Commander (Ammo Depot SPO) at KAOC Kahawa, Kenya from 1979 to 1987.

Educational Background
Konchela completed training in Resource and Financial Management at the Military Training College in Lanet, Camberley, United Kingdom, completing in 1976.
For his secondary education, he attended Nairobi School for A Levels from 1971 to 1972. He also studied at Narok High School from 1966 to 1970.
He completed his primary education at Kilgoris Primary School from 1959 to 1965.
