Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has declared Friday, November 1, a public holiday.
In a gazette notice dated Thursday, October 31, Mudavadi noted that the holiday will be held to mark the swearing-in of the new Deputy President-elect Kithure Kindiki.
In an earlier notice, the Chairperson of the Assumption of the Office of Deputy-President Committee announced that Kindiki would be sworn in on the same day from 10:00 am at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Here is the full statement on the Friday Declaration
“IT IS notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, in the exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, and sections 3 (b) and 12 (3) of the Assumption of Office of President Act, declares Friday, the 1st November, 2024, to be a public holiday,
“Being the date of the swearing-in of the Deputy President-designate. Dated the 31st October, 2024, Musalia Mudavadi, Ag. Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.”

Appointment of Mudavadi
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was appointed the acting Interior Cabinet Secretary, following the announcement of the swearing in of Kindiki.

At the same time, Chief of Staff Felix Kosei gazetted the formation of a committee comprising of 24 members to facilitate the swearing-in of Deputy President nominee Prof Kithure Kindiki.
Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau was appointed to head the committee preparing for the transition.
“Whereas on the 17th of October 2024, a vacancy arose in the Office of the Deputy President following a resolution of the Senate in accordance with Article 150 of the Constitution as notified vide Gazette Notice No. 13400 of 2024,” reads the notice in part.
“Whereas, in order to fill the vacancy in the Office of the Deputy President, in exercise of his powers under Article 149 (1) of the Constitution, His Excellency the President, on the 18th of October 2024, nominated Prof. Kithure Kindiki, PhD., E.G.H., for confirmation by the National Assembly.”
Earlier in the day, a three-judge bench led by Eric Ogola lifted conservatory orders preventing nominated Deputy President Kithure Kindiki from assuming office paving way for the transition.
