The Chairperson of the Assumption of the Office of Deputy-President Committee Mercy Wanjau has announced the swearing-in date of Kithure Kindiki as the next Deputy President.
In a notice on Thursday, October 31, 2024, the committee indicated that the swearing-in ceremony will take place on Friday, November 1, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (K.I.C.C.) from 10:00 am.

IT IS notified for the general information of the public that the swearing-in ceremony of the Deputy President-designate shall take place on Friday, 1st November 2024, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (K.I.C.C.). in Nairobi City County, from 10.00 O’clock in the forenoon.

Details of Committee Facilitating Swearing In
The confirmation came after the formation of a committee comprising of 24 members to facilitate the swearing-in.
In a special gazette notice issued on Thursday, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei appointed Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau to head the committee preparing for the transition.
“Whereas on the 17th of October 2024, a vacancy arose in the Office of the Deputy President following a resolution of the Senate in accordance with Article 150 of the Constitution as notified vide Gazette Notice No. 13400 of 2024,” reads the notice in part.
“Whereas, in order to fill the vacancy in the Office of the Deputy President, in exercise of his powers under Article 149 (1) of the Constitution, His Excellency the President, on the 18th of October 2024, nominated Prof. Kithure Kindiki, PhD., E.G.H., for confirmation by the National Assembly.”
A three-judge bench of the High Court sitting in Nairobi on the 31st of October 2024 vacated the interim orders halting the assumption swearing in of Kithure Kindiki.
“WHEREAS, to facilitate the assumption Office of the Deputy President-designate, the swearing-in of the Deputy President-designate shall be undertaken by the Assumption of the Office of Deputy President Committee comprising members of the Assumption of the Office of President Committee, with the necessary modifications as to utility.”
