Murang’a Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mark G. Wainaina is dead. Wainaina succumbed on November 13 while receiving treatment after being diagnosed with a severe pulmonary disease that led to the collapse of both his lungs.
The MCA, who is allied to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, had been forced to seek financial help for medical expenses prior to his death.
His fundraising event which had been scheduled for Friday, November 15, was announced by Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, on Tuesday.
Governor Kang’ata shared a passionate plea to the members of the public to help the county raise funds for the nominated MCA who was representing People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in the county.
”The Murang’a County Assembly Members Caucus invites you to a fundraising dinner in aid of one of our Members, Hon. Mark G. Wainaina who has been diagnosed with a severe pulmonary disease that has caused both of his lungs to fail,” Kang’ata shared.
Wainaina’s death was announced after the doctors attending to him confirmed that the final electrocardiogram (ECG) test, a process used to record the electrical signals in the heart, showed that he was no longer alive.

Mark Wainaina mourned
Murang’a County Assembly Speaker while announcing the politician’s death mourned him as a committed leader, friend and pillar of strength to many.
“It is with profound sadness that we, as the Murang’a County Assembly, mourn the passing of Hon Mark Wainaina. Hon. Mark was not only a committed leader but also a friend and pillar of strength to many of us. His unwavering dedication, boldness, and wisdom enriched our Assembly and strengthened our community,” said the Speaker.

He added, “Hon. Wainana’s legacy as a problem-solver, a courageous voice, and a wise leader will forever be etched in our hearts. He served with integrity and tenacity, leaving an indelible mark on Murang’a County. His loss is deeply felt, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

Other MCAs who served with Wainaina at the County Assembly expressed their shock at the incident.
Nominated MCA Shirleen Wambui who had also appealed Kenyans to help the family of Wainaina to raise funds for his treatment mourned him in a statement.
“And the lord asked me, so what will you say to those who abused him and ridiculed him in his time of need? And I said to the lord, give them plenty of peace, maintain them in good health and bless them, Lord. Amen! Rest well Mark Wainaina,” posted Wambui.
