Pope Francis is Dead. Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, said the Pope died at 9:45Am on Monday, April 21, 2025.
The Pontiff died at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.

He announced the Casa Santa Marta. Cardinal Kevin Farrell said Pope Francis died around 7:35 AM.
At 9:45 AM on Easter Monday, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, spoke these words at the Casa Santa Marta: “Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father.”

The Vatican mourned Francis as a person who dedicated his life to the Lord and the Catholic Church.
“His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized,” he said.

“With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God.”
Return to Vatican
Pope Francis returned to the Vatican on March 23 after being hospitalized for five weeks for double pneumonia.
He made a brief public appearance for the first time in more than five weeks, waving to a crowd from his window at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital.
His doctors spoke a day earlier, providing details on the severity of the infection.
Dr. Sergio Alfieri said Francis required at least two months of rest and rehabilitation as he continues his recovery even after being discharged.

He confirmed that the Pope had difficulty speaking, explaining that it was due to lung damage and the time he spent on supplemental oxygen and ventilation.
However, he added that such issues are normal and predicted the Pope’s voice would recover.
“When you have a bilateral pneumonia, your lungs get damaged, and the respiratory muscles are in difficulty. You lose your voice a bit, like when you speak too high,” Dr Alfieri said.

Pope Francis Hospitalized
Pope Francis was admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic on February 14, 2025.
Vatican said the Pontiff was admitted to the hospital for diagnostic tests and treatment for bronchitis.
Before this, the Pope had made several hospital visits due to various health concerns.
The recent one was in 2023 when he underwent abdominal surgery.
