The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed that detectives have arrested another suspect linked to Kaspul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were’s murder.
In a statement dated Wednesday May 14, 2025, the DCI identified the suspect apprehended as Amos Barasa Kasili.
“In an intelligence-led operation, detectives have apprehended Amos Barasa Kasili at Kibera Darajani area, linking him to the tragic shooting of the late Kasipul MP, Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were, which occurred on April 30, 2025.
This arrest follows a thorough investigation that forensically connected Barasa to the main suspects and placed him at the crime scene on that fateful day,” read part of the statement.
Police Arrest Rider Who Carried Were’s ‘Hitman’
According to DCI it has been established that Barasa served as the rider of the motorcycle with registration number KMFZ 413W, a Bajaj Boxer, which the assailants used to trail the MP’s vehicle and later as a getaway bike after the attack. During Barasa’s arrest he was found in possession of the motorcycle in question.
Additionally, the Criminal Investigation body stated that the motorcycle recovered from Barasa matches the description of the bike captured by CCTV footage near Parliament, which was seen trailing the late MP’s vehicle.
Further, the DCI stated that Barasa is currently being processed for arraignment as investigations continue.

Moreover, the criminal investigation body revealed that Barasa is a habitual offender who poses as a Boda Boda operator, often collaborating with armed criminal gangs during their operations. During interrogation, he admitted his involvement in the crime, revealing that he had been recruited by the main perpetrators and received a payment of Ksh. 50,000 as part of his compensation.
Man Believed to Have Shot Were Apprehended
The arrest of Barasa comes days after the detectives apprehended Isaac Kuria, also known as Kush, who is believed to be the individual that shot the MP.
Kuria was arrested in Isebania while planning to flee to Tanzania, where a relative resides. According to police reports, on the day of the shooting, Kuria monitored the MP’s movements in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).

The arrest of the rider brings the total number of suspects to 12. Among those already in custody are businessman and politician Philip Aroko; the late MP’s bodyguard, Alan Omondi; his driver, Walter Owino; William Imoli; and Lake Basin Development Authority Director, Ebel Ochieng.
