ICEA Lion Group has announced changes to the boards of its insurance businesses with the appointment of four new independent non-executive directors and the retirement of long-serving director David Hutchison.
The appointments, which took effect on June 19, 2026, were announced by the boards of ICEA Lion General Insurance Company Limited and ICEA Lion Life Assurance Company Limited.
The insurer said the changes are intended to strengthen board leadership and governance as the company continues to grow its operations in the insurance, pensions, investments and trusts sectors.
Under the new appointments, Suzanne Muthaura and Allan Wainaina have joined the board of ICEA Lion General Insurance Company as independent non-executive directors.
At ICEA Lion Life Assurance Company, Dorothy Ooko and Charles Luo have been appointed as independent non-executive directors.
The company said the new board members bring extensive experience across sectors, including law, finance, accounting, business strategy, governance, communications, and risk management.
ICEA Lion Board Changes
Suzanne Muthaura is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a certified public secretary and a partner at MMAN Advocates.
She holds a Master of Laws degree in Corporate and Commercial Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Warwick.
According to ICEA Lion, Muthaura has more than 25 years of experience leading complex legal transactions and has expertise in mergers and acquisitions, asset finance, private equity, corporate advisory and commercial contracts.

She has also been recognized by international legal ranking agencies for her work in commercial, corporate and finance law.
Allan Wainaina is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi.
The company said Wainaina brings 35 years of experience in finance, internal and external audit, general management and corporate strategy.
Throughout his career, he has served in senior positions at organizations including PwC, British American Tobacco, Nairobi Java House Group and Telkom Kenya.
He currently sits on several boards in Kenya, including Paramount Bank Kenya, Cianda Holdings Limited, Vivo Fashion Group and SOS Children’s Villages Kenya.
At the life assurance company, Dorothy Ooko joins the board with more than 20 years of experience in strategic communications and brand management across Africa.
ICEA Lion said she has played a key role in shaping communication strategies for global technology companies and has expertise in financial oversight, stakeholder engagement, resource allocation and risk management.
Ooko is also the co-founder of WS&O, an organization that works with founders to build purpose-led brands while supporting the advancement of artificial intelligence.

She holds a Master of International Business Administration in Strategic Management from United States International University.
Focus on Governance
Charles Luo, another new appointee to the life assurance board, is the Chief Executive Officer of Cynergy Global Limited and Principal of Aventum Advisory Limited.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University and an MBA from the University of London.
He is also a Certified Public Accountant and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
ICEA Lion said Luo has extensive experience in audit, strategy, governance, financial management, risk management and business transformation.
He previously worked as a partner at Deloitte, where he led audit and advisory engagements across several countries and industries.
The boards welcomed the four directors and expressed confidence that their professional experience will help support the companies’ strategic objectives and strengthen governance practices.
At the same time, the insurer announced the retirement of David Hutchison from both boards, effective June 19, 2026.
The boards thanked Hutchison for his years of service and contribution to the company, describing his leadership and commitment as valuable to the organization’s growth and development.
In a notice issued by Company Secretary Sally Gitau on July 16, 2026, ICEA Lion said Hutchison’s contribution during his tenure was greatly appreciated and wished him well in his future endeavors.
