Two companies have forged a partnership to boost the quality of potatoes being produced by farmers in potato producing regions in Kenya
Agrico East Africa, a company that specializes in seed multiplication and distribution and Yara East Africa, a manufacturer, and supplier of fertilizer have partnered to boost potato farmers in Nakuru and Narok counties.
The partnership seeks to enable farmers access certified seeds as well as direct markets to processors.
Through the partnership, smallholder farmers will receive training and inputs in the form of certified potato seed varieties, fertilizer, and crop protection products, and at the same time get connected to local processors who will buy their produce.
It will provide farmers with information on how to grow quality potatoes by linking them to experts who will offer advise on potato farming.
Kefa Makorio, an agronomist at Yara East Africa said that the partnership will enhance productivity and income among local farmers
