The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has predicted predominantly sunny and dry weather conditions across most parts of the country between January 31 and February 4, 2026, with rainfall expected only in a few regions.
According to the department’s five-day forecast shared on January 30, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in the regions of Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley.
Counties in the regions predicted to receive rainfall include Kisumu, Kericho, Kisii, Bomet, Nyamira, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Busia, Bungoma, and Kakamega.
According to the five-day weather forecast, rainfall in these areas is expected on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The weather in the afternoon is expected to feature showers and thunderstorms in a few locations. From Monday to Wednesday, the Meteorological Department predicts a chance of morning rainfall and afternoon showers, with the probability of rainfall estimated at between 31 and 50 percent.
In contrast, areas east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and surrounding counties, are expected to remain mostly sunny. However, isolated light showers may occur on Saturday afternoon.

Temperature Differences Across Region
There will be notable temperature variations across the country, with the highest daytime temperatures expected in the North-western and North-eastern regions. Hot conditions are forecast to persist throughout the five-day period.
Counties such as Turkana, Marsabit, and Mandera are expected to record maximum temperatures of up to 38°C. These temperatures are likely to remain consistent during the forecast period, especially in arid and semi-arid areas.
Conditions are expected to be cooler at night in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley. Minimum temperatures in these areas are forecast to drop to as low as 5°C on Sunday and Wednesday, particularly in elevated areas and during the early morning hours.

Areas along the coast are expected to remain warm and humid during the period. Maximum temperatures along the Coast are forecast to range between 32°C and 34°C, with humidity levels remaining relatively high.
Heads-up for Kenyans
Other regions, including the South-eastern lowlands, are expected to remain generally dry, with partly cloudy conditions forecast at night. Similar conditions are expected in the Coastal region, where no significant rainfall is anticipated.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised the public to follow daily 24-hour forecasts and localized weather updates issued by County Directors of Meteorological Services, in addition to the five-day outlook.
