A 72-year-old woman in Busia County died amid the ongoing heavy rains in parts of Kenya and an active El Nino threat.
The woman, according to reports, died after the house she was sleeping in collapsed and consequently sustained injuries from the crumbles.
Her neighbors said they tried to rescue her from the crumbles but with no success.
At the same time, three more people, among them three children, were admitted to a hospital after sustaining injuries from different accidents caused by the ongoing rains.
According to residents who spoke to the media, the region is experiencing an extraordinary rain season which they noted has never happened before.
In the interview, the residents noted that a strong wind rocked the area at around 6 pm on Tuesday, October 24.
The wind, according to them, blew off the roofs of several houses, posing danger to occupants.

“The rainfall was not that intense but there was a very strong wind, kind of whirling. It blew the roof open and fell the walls,” a resident noted.
In addition to the collapsed houses, the winds also hit a school in the area leaving some classrooms without roofs.
Moreover, the tragedy in Busia came even as reports indicated that the El Nino threat predicted earlier had faded away.
The Kenya Meteorological Department, however, warned that parts of the country would still continue experiencing significant rainfall during the short rains season.

In a separate video, the weatherman shared a video showing parts of Northern Kenya where floods had washed away roads rendering them impassable.
Parts of Marsabit County and the Marsabit Isiolo Road were affected by the floods caused by the Malgis River in the county.
Additionally, the meteorological department warned residents in such areas to avoid flooded areas as a precaution.

Parts of the former Northeastern province also experienced remarkable rainfall, according to the report. Moreover, KMD insisted that select parts of the country would continue receiving high rainfall.
This even as questions regarding the funds set aside for the anticipated El Nino preparedness continue to linger.
