The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released the weather forecast for the period between August 15 and 21, 2025.
In the forecast published on Friday, August 15, Kenya Met predicted that rainfall is expected to persist over several parts of the country.
According to the weatherman, rainfall is likely in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, and North-western Kenya.
“Scattered heavy rainfall events are likely over these regions,” Kenya Met said.
Counties expected to experience rain include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
Other affected counties include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Nairobi, Turkana, and Samburu.
Kenya Met Releases Weather Forecast for 15th–21st August 2025
According to Kenya Met, rainfall in parts of the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley is expected to intensify to more than 20mm in 24 hours and spread to the Highlands East of the Rift Valley on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
The heavy rainfall is likely to continue until Tuesday, August 19, before reducing in intensity from Wednesday, August 20.
Cold and Cloudy Conditions
The weather department also warned of the likelihood of very cold weather conditions over the next five days, particularly in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Rift Valley, and South-eastern lowlands, which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County.
Residents in these areas were advised to brace for low temperatures of up to 7°C for the first two days of the forecast, rising to around 9°C for the remaining days.
“Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are likely over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Rift Valley, and South-eastern Lowlands,” Kenya Met noted.

Strong Winds
Kenya Met also warned that strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are already being experienced over the eastern sector and are projected to continue.
Affected areas include the Coast—Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties—as well as coastal parts of Tana River County.
Other affected regions include the South-eastern Lowlands and North-eastern Kenya, which comprises Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo Counties, and North-western Kenya.

August 21–27, 2025 Forecast
The weatherman announced that rainfall will continue in several parts of Kenya until the end of August, though with reduced intensity. Isolated storms may still occur.
“Rain remains ideal for tree growing in the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, North-west, and Central Highlands, as shown in the maps,” Kenya Met added.
