The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has announced closure of sections of Uhuru Highway.
In a notice on Friday, March 7, the authority alerted motorists that Harry Thuku Road and University way will not be passable as from March 8.
“KeNHA wishes to notify the public that there will be temporary closure of Uhuru Highway (A8) between Harry Thuku Road and University Way (Mombasa Bound) from 11:00 pm on Friday March 8 to midnight on Sunday March 10, 2024,” read the notice in part.
KeNHA has further revealed that the closure of the section of the road will allow highway maintenance works.
Additionally, the authority advised motorists to use alternative routes as they navigate through the city.
“All motorist accessing Uhuru Highway (A8) from Kenyatta Avenue will use alternative routes such as Harry Thuku Road and University Way,” the notice continued.
KeNHA Gives Directions to Motorists
At the same time, the authority advised motorists to observe safety precautions while riding along the roads under construction.

“Motorist using these roads are advised to approach the affected section with closure,”
They are also requested to adhere to the traffic signs and follow the guidance provided by law enforcement officers and traffic marshals who will be present on site.
“Motorists should approach the section with caution and to follow the traffic signs and guidance as directed by traffic Marshall and Police,” read the statement.

Uhuru Highway Direction
Uhuru Highway is a major road in Nairobi, Kenya. It starts at the intersection of University Way and Haile Selasie Avenue in the Central Business District (CBD) of Nairobi.
From there it runs in a Southwest direction passing by Landmarks such as the Uhuru Park, Nyayo National Stadium and the University of Nairobi and joins Waiyaki Way.
It also connects the city to Mombasa Road, a major route that links Nairobi and the Coastal City.
Uhuru Highway also connects motorists to the Nairobi Expressway, the 27-km elevated road.
