Police have arrested a notorious wanted Mulot SIM swap gang leader David Mutai alias Hillary Langat Matindwet.
Mutai was arrested on Friday December 30 morning in Kericho Town.
Police nabbed Mutai outside the local KCB bank where they suspect he planned another heist.
Members of the public who spotted him alerted police who were manning the premise who arrested him.
He is being held at the Kericho DCI offices ahead of planned transfer to Nairobi and later prosecution.
Confirming the arrest,Rift Valley DCI boss Francis Wanjau said he was under interrogation.
“He was arrested this morning and our officers are talking to him before we know the way forward,” he said.
Mutai had unsuccessfully vied for an MCA seat in 2022 polls in Bomet.

On Wednesday, detectives unmasked Mutai as a man whom they alleged to be the mastermind of the infamous Mulot SIM swap syndicate.
He has several cases and warrants of arrest hanging around his neck.
DCI had said the identification of the Mulot SIM swap suspects followed comprehensive investigations by the detectives based at the elite Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau.
According to the DCI, the gang hijack victims cell phone number and use it to gain access to sensitive personal data and bank accounts through the mobile banking applications available on mobile phones.
