Contrary to recent media reports, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that Police Constable (PC) Samuel Gathitu Ng’ang’a, one of the officers arraigned over a violent robbery in Kitengela, is not part of the Deputy President’s protection team.
According to the DCI, the officer, stationed at Elwak Police Station, was reportedly off duty when the incident occurred.
The clarification comes as four police officers appeared in Kajiado Law Courts facing charges of robbery with violence involving a Congolese national.
The accused, PC Lincoln Ashioya (110661), PC Tom Odero Abwoga (108093) of Muungano Police Station, PC Samuel Gathitu Ng’ang’a (112507) and PC Perminus Muiruri Kamau (111947) of DCI Kitengela allegedly carried out the robbery alongside an accomplice named Erick, who remains at large.

The court released the officers on Ksh 50,000 cash bail each, rejecting a request by investigators for 10 days of custody to complete further inquiries. They are required to report daily at 7:00 p.m. to DCI Isinya.
According to reports, the complainant, Djuma Yasin Mumbele, was travelling from Namanga to Nairobi on March 23, 2026, when he was lured by Erick with a promise to secure a buyer for his diamond necklace in Kitengela.
At the Kitengela main stage, he was directed to vehicle KBK 771Z, where two men posing as buyers allegedly tried to handcuff and rob him.
Public intervention helped rescue the victim and apprehend one suspect, who was escorted to the police station.
The suspects are alleged to have stolen a diamond necklace valued at USD 1,905, USD 3,000, EUR 300, and Ksh 500.

The complainant sustained neck and back injuries and was treated at Kitengela Level Four Hospital before being discharged. The vehicle used in the robbery was recovered as evidence.
Investigations also revealed that the officers are wanted by DCI Embakasi in connection with another robbery case, and identification parades before arraignment confirmed their involvement.
The DCI reiterated that professionalism, accountability, and the rule of law will guide the handling of the suspects, emphasising that any officer found guilty of criminal conduct will face the law without exception.
