The State Department for Diaspora Affairs has announced the immediate evacuation of Kenyan citizens residing in Israel and Iran as the conflict between the two nations continues to escalate to worrying levels.

In a statement on Saturday, June 21, the State Department asked Kenyans residing in the two Middle Eastern nations to register for evacuation, days after it issued a safety advisory.

The conflict between Israel and Iran has intensified significantly since June 13, and both nations are currently engaging in large-scale military operations targeting each side.

“For your safety and to ensure we can assist you promptly in case of any emergency or distress, we kindly ask you to register your details with the State Department for Diaspora Affairs,” read part of the statement.

Kenyans were further asked to register by filling in a form being which can be accessed through the State Department for Diaspora Affairs Evacuation link.

They are required to fill in details concerning personal Information such as full name and telephone number, preferred contact, passport and national ID number, current resident address, location information, medical information, next of kin information and other additional information.

Alternatively, they can scan the QR code provided on the poster posted on the State Department of Diaspora Affairs’ social media accounts to register.

This comes after Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu on Thursday revealed that the government is working on the evacuation plans for Kenyans in Israel and Iran as the hostilities in the Middle East spiral.

PS Njogu, however, said that those affected must first register with Kenyan missions in Tehran and Tel Aviv before evacuation starts.

On Wednesday, the PS had issued an advisory urging Kenyans residing in the two nations, which are involved in bombardments, to exercise extreme caution and avoid non-essential movement within troubled zones.

In the statement, she further asked Kenyans in the region to monitor local media and follow local authority instructions to ensure their safety.

Njogu also urged Kenyan nationals there to contact Kenya’s missions in the respective states if they require urgent assistance or are in distress.

“Register your presence with the Kenya mission near you if you have not done so, to ensure you can be reached quickly in case of evacuation or emergency support. Stay connected and maintain regular contact with family members and inform them of your whereabouts and well-being,” she said.

“The government continues to monitor the situation in the region and remains fully committed to the safety and welfare of Kenyans wherever they are.”

Tensions escalate as Israel-Iran war enters second week despite diplomatic efforts

The second week of hostilities between Israel and Iran began with intensified airstrikes, underlining the failure of recent diplomatic efforts to curb the violence.

High-level talks held in Geneva on Friday between European foreign ministers and Iran’s top diplomat lasted over four hours but ended without any significant progress toward de-escalation.

Despite growing international pressure, both sides have continued their military offensives. The ongoing conflict, which erupted following a series of provocations and cross-border attacks, has raised alarm over the safety of sensitive infrastructure, particularly Iran’s nuclear facilities.

In Washington, former U.S. President Donald Trump remained deliberative over the extent of American involvement, as global powers urged restraint.

Analysts warn that any strikes targeting nuclear sites could provoke a catastrophic regional escalation and potentially draw in other actors, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and U.S. allies in the Gulf.

The United Nations Security Council has called for an emergency meeting to address the deepening crisis, though diplomatic avenues remain narrow as both Tehran and Tel Aviv show little willingness to step back.
