The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has invited applications for the first time and subsequent applications for the 2023-2024 KASNEB Foundation Loans and Bursary Scheme.
In an advert on Tuesday, November 21, HELB said the Scheme is open for all students pursuing Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB) qualifications.
“The Scheme will cater for KASNEB registration fees, annual registration renewal fees, examination booking fees, exemption fees and tuition fees for eligible students,” said HELB.
Additionally, the Board outlined the application procedure for first time applicants and subsequent applications.
HELB First Time Application Process
Step 1: Before commencing application for the KASNEB Foundation Loan & Bursary Scheme, applicants MUST be registered on the Students’ Portal on the KASNEB website.
Step 2: Applicants should visit the website www.hefcoke to access the application portal to register and activate account (ensure you use your personal mobile number registered under your name and ID number).
Step 3: When creating your profile, kindly ensure that you select that your level of study is “Professional Course and Diploma” and under Education Backgrounds indicate you’re not admitted by Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
Step 4: Click Loan Application and select:
i) KASNEB Foundation Loan and Bursary Application- Tuition fees only.
ii) KASNEB Foundation Loan and Bursary Application-KASNEB fees only.
“You can apply for KASNEB fees only, tuition fees only or both KASNEB fees and tuition,” read the advert.
Step 5: Access and fill the selected application form.
Step 6: Upon successful application and submission of the application online you will not be required to print and submit any physical application to us. (This is a paperless application).
Step 7: You will be enabled to track the processing status of your application on the application portal.
” The dosing date for the 2023-2024 KASNEB Foundation Loan and Bursary Scheme First Time and Subsequent application is on June 30, 2024,” said HELB.

Subsequent Application
This application is meant for students enrolled in approved KASNEB courses and are applying for the second and subsequent student loan.
According to HELB, the application procedure is as follows.
Step 1: Download the HELB App from Coogle Play Store OR use USSD Code by dialing “642#.
Step 2: Note that there has been an upgrade on the HELB App therefore ensure to upgrade your App.
Step 3: Register using your phone number to generate a PIN which you will use to log in.
Step 4: Ensure the mobile number is registered under your name.
“Mobile numbers not registered in the student’s name will not be able to proceed with the application,” said HELB.
Step 5: Read, understand, and click to acept the license agreement.
Step 6: Enter your first name as it appears on your national ID card, the ID number and valid email address to complete registration.
Step 7: Click on the “Loans” tab and choose Professional Course and Diploma”. Then click “apply on the KASNEB Foundation Second and Subsequent Scheme.
“This application is paperless. You are not required to print any form. A confirmation SMS with the application serial number is the evidence that you have applied. Kindly save the SMS for future reference,” said the Board.

Step 8: Click on get started to start the application process.
Step 9: Enter your phone number which should be registered in your name and national id number to verify that you are the owner of that number.
Step 10: Read and understand the loan terms and conditions and agree to proceed.
“HELB does not charge any fee to access the application, report any form of extortion to authorities,” read part of the advert.
Step 11: Answer the financial literacy questions and scroll down to view results and click “proceed.
Step 12: Click request loan to view and verity your Loan details.
Step 13: Click “submit” to complete the Loan application. A pop-up message will appear to show that you have successfully applied. The application serial number will also be displayed.
Furthermore, the Board said that the applicants will receive other notifications on awards and disbursements of the loans & bursaries at later dates.
