The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) periodically recruits examiners to assist in marking national examinations.
These opportunities are open to qualified teachers with experience in the subjects they wish to examine.
Interested applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria, undergo training, and apply through the official KNEC examiners’ portal.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must be practicing teachers or lecturers in teacher training colleges, universities, or TVET institutions.
They must also be registered or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and hold a Degree in Education or higher.
Applicants must have at least three years of teaching experience, be below 50 years of age, and not be under any disciplinary action by the TSC.
Additionally, applicants must be recommended for the role by their respective institutions.
Tutors who have already been trained as assessors for DPTE, DSTE, or DECTE and are listed in KNEC’s examiners’ database are exempt from reapplying.

- If it’s your first time applying, you will need to register an account on the KNEC online portal.
- Complete the Application Form
- Fill in your personal details, teaching qualifications, experience, and the subjects you are applying to examine.
- Ensure all information is accurate; incomplete applications are often rejected.
- Upload Required Documents
- You will need:
- Academic certificates and transcripts
- Professional teaching certificates
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- National ID or Passport
- Some applications may also require recommendation letters from your school or employer.

Submit the Application
- Review your application carefully before submission.
- Submit it through the online portal.
- Wait for Shortlisting
- KNEC will shortlist applicants based on qualifications, experience, and the number of examiners needed for each subject.
- Shortlisted candidates are usually contacted via email or SMS.
- Attend Training (if shortlisted)
- Selected examiners attend KNEC training sessions on marking standards, exam security, and ethical guidelines before being assigned scripts to mark.
- Receive Examiner Assignment
- After training, you will receive your assignment to mark exam scripts, participate in moderation, or assist in other examination-related duties.

Details of Training and Eligibility
The training, which will combine both online and physical sessions, requires a fee of Ksh10,500, payable only by shortlisted applicants.
Moreover, selected candidates will receive further details regarding access to training materials and the schedule for in-person sessions.
The training covers a wide range of subjects under DPTE, DECTE, and DSTE assessments, including English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Studies, Physical Education, Art and Craft, Music.
Other subjects include Indigenous Languages, Agriculture, and various technical subjects such as Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, and Media Technology.
