Kiplagat Kotut is the Acting Vice Chancellor of Moi University and a Professor of Animal Sciences.
He was appointed in February 2025 after the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Sanga Kosgey, was placed on compulsory leave amid investigations into mismanagement and mounting debt.
Kiplagat Kotut previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics, Research, and Extension at Embu University.
Kiplagat also served at Kenyatta University, rising through the ranks from Graduate Assistant in September 1989 to Associate Professor and eventually Dean of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences.
In 1989, he completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees and began working as a Graduate Assistant at Kenyatta University in September.
He holds a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in biological sciences and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) from Kenyatta University.
Kiplagat later earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Kenyatta University.

In December 2012, Prof. Kotut joined Embu University as Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, Research, and Extension, where he oversaw academic programs, research initiatives, and extension services.

In February 2025, Prof. Kotut was appointed Acting Vice Chancellor of Moi University, taking over leadership at a critical time for the institution as it faced financial and administrative challenges.

After his appointment as a VC, Prof. Kotut has publicly supported research hubs such as the African Cluster Centre of Excellence in African Studies at Moi University, strengthening international academic collaborations with universities across Africa and Europe.
