The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened a late application window for Form Four leavers who qualified for university admission but were not placed in degree programmes.

In a notice issued on Friday, July 17, KUCCPS asked KCSE candidates who scored a minimum grade of C+ but missed university placement to apply for available degree programmes.

Students who are Form Four leavers between 2022 and 2025 qualify to apply.

The late application window is the first of its kind for degree programmes.

“Calling on Form Four leavers from 2022 to 2025: Did you score C+ and above in KCSE and missed university placement? For the first time, KUCCPS is allowing late application for degree programmes. Do not remain behind, apply now!” KUCCPS said.

KUCCPS Opens Late Degree Applications; How to Apply

Applicants have been asked to submit their applications through the KUCCPS Student Portal. The applications will be closed on August 14.

To log in, applicants need their KCSE index number, KCSE examination year, and a password. The password is either their KCPE index number or birth certificate number.

The portal can be accessed through students.kuccps.net, the KUCCPS website (www.kuccps.ac.ke), or the KUCCPS Students App.

Once logged in, applicants should click on Late Degree Application, select their preferred courses, and submit their applications.

Browse the available degree programmes and select your preferred course(s). Candidates can apply for up to six degree programmes.

Review your choices and submit the application.

Follow any payment instructions, if applicable, to complete the application process.

KUCCPS said placement into degree programmes will be based on applicants’ weighted cluster points, which are calculated using the seven best-performed subjects examined by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

CS Ogamba Orders KUCCPS to Reopen Placement Applications

The announcement follows the release of the 2026/2027 placement results, which showed that more than 57,000 students who qualified for university admission were not placed in any degree programme.

While releasing the placement results on Wednesday, July 8, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba directed KUCCPS to reopen applications for students who missed the just-concluded placement exercise, insisting that no eligible learner should miss out on higher education.

Education CS said that some students did not submit applications despite qualifying for university admission.

He revealed that some opted for alternative education pathways, and others missed the application window due to various circumstances.

“We recognize that some eligible students did not apply for placement because they may have opted to seek alternative pathways to higher education and training. Still, some of them may have missed the opportunity to apply because of other circumstances,” Ogamba said.

“I have directed the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service to immediately devise a mechanism to allow late applications for placement. Our clarion call is that no student should be left behind.”

Inter-Institutional Transfer Window Open

The late application window comes as KUCCPS also opened the 2026 inter-institutional transfer window, giving students who have already been placed in universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions 30 days to apply for transfers.

The transfer application period targets students who wish to move to Universities offering their preferred programmes.

Applications for transfers are being submitted through the KUCCPS Student Portal and will close on August 14, 2026.

“Were you recently placed in a university or TVET programme and wish to move to a different institution? Take advantage of the current 30-day inter-institutional transfer application period. Log in to KUCCPS student portal and apply for a transfer,” KUCCPS said.
