How to Recover Your Lost National ID For Free

If you lose your National Identification Card (ID), the government requires that you pay a Ksh1,000 fee for replacement.

However, despite the online payment, the process remains tedious requiring you to stay in long lines at the Huduma Centre. Often, you have to wait for months on end before the ID is printed or your details are processed.

Before going through the cumbersome process, you should at least ensure that you have exhausted all your options.

To assist with this, Reloid Limited has introduced an online database to help Kenyans recover their lost ID cards.

How the lost ID Website Works

The website provides an option for anyone to report a case of a lost ID card. At the same time, members of the public are also able to report when they come across a misplaced or lost ID card.

Individuals must register as agents to have authority to post details of lost cards on the website to ensure they adhere to data protection policies.

However, Kenyans who lose their IDs can do a quick search by imputing their ID numbers to track the card on a real time basis.

If the card has been reported missing, the website will show the exact location for collection by the owner.

On the other hand, if the card has not yet been listed, the website will let you know that it is not there and ask you to check back after a day.

“Not Yet Found. Try again in 1 day.”

Also, you have an option to leave your details and get alerted once your ID is found. The website can be accessed at recoverlostid.co.ke

How Agents Collect information

Registering as an agent with the organization makes one eligible for weekly compensation for every Found ID that they post.

The agents are responsible for documenting lost IDs, uploading the ID details, picture, and the location of the ID on the website.

“For every ID uploaded by an agent, the agent will be eligible to earn Kes 100. The compensation will be made after the owner of the ID retrieves the information from the platform.”

Moreover, they operate under rules including not moving an ID from an official location such as a mall, or hospital.

“If the ID has been found at a non-official location, such as by the roadside, the agent should take it to an official location and record it there. The agent should ensure the entered details are accurate, and the taken picture is Clear,” the website explains.

After registering as an agent, you are provided with an ID Tag as an agent of RELOID (Recover Lost ID) that you have to show while accessing official locations.
