Standard Group Company Secretary Lands New Job

Standard Media Group Company Secretary Millicent Ngetich has landed a new role at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).

NSE in a notice announced the appointment of Ngetich as its new Company Secretary effective January 24, 2025.

According to the Stock Exchange, her appointment follows the exit of former Company Secretary Kurio Waithaka who has held the role for the last five years.

“In accordance with the provisions of the Capital Markets Act and its Regulations, the Board of Directors of the Nairobi Securities Exchange PLC (NSE) wishes to announce the following changes with respect to the Company Secretary,” read part of the notice.

“Kurio Waithaka, who has served as Company Secretary of the NSE for the last five (5) years exalted on early retirement effective 31 December 2024. The Board of Directors takes this opportunity to extend its gratitude to Kuria, for his immense contribution and dedication to the NSE and wishes him the very best in his future endeavors.”

Millicent Ngetich is an accomplished certified secretary and corporate lawyer with over 17 years of experience in corporate governance, driving organizational compliance, legal advisory, policy development, and risk management.

The Standard Group Company Secretary has vast experience in providing strategic guidance, facilitating decision-making processes, mitigating legal risk, and championing corporate governance requirements.

Profile of Millicent Ngetich

In addition, she has a proven track record of successfully supporting a range of corporate entities through complex legal matters and business operations.

Ngetich has served as a Company Secretary for several companies in Kenya. As of January 30, 2025, she held the role at Sasini PLC, which is a member of the Sameer Group of Companies, and the Standard Media Group.

In November 2024, Standard Group PLC announced the appointment of Millicent as the Company’s Secretary following the resignation of Victoria Cherotich.

She had been acting as the head of the legal department since 2015 where she used to monitor internal processes, company and board operations to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory guidelines.

“The Standard Group PLC wishes to inform shareholders that the Board has appointed Ms. Millicent Ng’etich, as the Company Secretary of the Company and its subsidiaries with effect from 1st November 2024, following the resignation of Victoria Cherotich. On behalf of the Board, we thank Ms. Cherotich for her service and wish her well in her future endeavors,” read part of the notice.

Education

Ngetich holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Moi University and Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law (KSL).

She is also a Certified Secretary and an Accredited Governance Auditor.

Millicent is a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS).

The lawyer has previously worked at Unilever East Africa where she held different roles such as Legal Counsel and Legal Affairs manager.

Moreover, Ng’etich served at the State Law Office as a state counsel in 2008-2010.

She currently also serves as the Company Secretary on various Boards of companies in diverse sectors.
