The race for Africa’s final ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup enters a decisive phase on November 13, 2025, as four nations clash in high-stakes playoff semifinals in Rabat, Morocco.

Nigeria, Gabon, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo are the last contenders standing — after finishing as runners-up in their respective qualifying groups — each determined to keep their World Cup dream alive.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) structured these playoffs to determine the continent’s representative for the FIFA Intercontinental Playoff scheduled for March 2026.

The semifinals are single-leg ties, with winners advancing to Sunday’s final at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The winner of that match will earn the right to face a team from another confederation for a place in the expanded 48-team World Cup, to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Nigeria vs Gabon

Nigeria enters the match as the favourites and the highest-ranked side (41st in the FIFA standings), boasting a squad rich in talent led by Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen has scored nine goals in 11 appearances this season, underlining his status as one of Africa’s most lethal strikers.

Supporting him are Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze, who bring pace and creativity on the flanks.

Gabon, on the other hand, is striving to make its dream of qualifying for the World Cup a reality.

They finished second behind the Ivory Coast in Group F and are looking up to Marseille forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to produce the magical moments.

The match will be played at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, at 7 PM, in what is a highly anticipated match.

Victory today will earn the team a spot in Sunday’s final and a chance to fight for Africa’s last World Cup ticket in March.

Cameroon vs DR Congo

Cameroon and DR Congo are scheduled to face off in a decisive CAF World Cup playoff seminal at Al Barid Stadium, Rabat.

The winner will face either Nigeria or Gabon on Sunday in the CAF Playoffs final for Africa’s last ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Cameroon, Africa’s most experienced World Cup nation, enters the match ranked 54th by FIFA but hampered by injuries.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Zambo Anguissa are unavailable, while goalkeeper André Onana remains a doubt.

Coach Marc Brys will lean on Bryan Mbeumo for attacking spark and Carlos Baleba for midfield control.

DR Congo, ranked 60th, is chasing its first World Cup appearance since 1974.

Coach Sébastien Desabre has built a disciplined side anchored by Chancel Mbemba in defense and Cédric Bakambu in attack.

New addition Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who switched allegiance from England earlier this year, adds experience, pace, and stability to the backline.

With no home advantage on neutral Moroccan soil, both sides must adapt quickly.

Cameroon will be looking to preserve their proud World Cup legacy while DR Congo will be looking to end a 51-year wait.

Africa at 2026 FIFA World Cup

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed nine nations that have secured direct qualification for the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup set for the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026, marking Africa’s largest guaranteed representation in tournament history.

The nine nations are Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ghana, South Africa, and Cape Verde.

These nine teams will represent Africa in North America, while one additional African side could still qualify through the intercontinental playoff in March 2026.
