The Office of the Attorney General has shortlisted candidates who applied for job opportunities advertised in November 2024.
In a job advertisement on Tuesday, November 5, the Office under AG Dorcas Oduor highlighted openings for the positions of Office Assistant and State Counsel.

The advert listed 30 vacancies for the role of Office Assistant, classified as Vacancy No. 6/2024, Job Group CSG 16, with the position title Office Assistant III.
Besides the Office Assistant positions, the Office of the Attorney General advertised vacancies for the position of State Counsel.

Moreover, the Office listed 78 positions for State Counsel, classified as Vacancy No. 3/2024, Job Group CSG 9.
The duties and responsibilities of the State Counsel listed included working under the guidance of a senior officer and may involve deployment to various technical divisions, including Civil Litigation, Legislative Drafting, Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Public Legal Services, Government Legal Services, the Advocates Complaints Commission, and Regional Offices.

Also shortlisted were the positions of Assistant Office Administrator III and Legal Clerk Assistant IV with 30 vacancies each.
1,035 shortlisted out of 33, 418
In a notice on February 25, the office announced that at the close of the advertisement on November 21, 2024, a total number of 33, 418 applications had been received.
The office further listed the number of shortlisted candidates out of the more than 30,000 applicants.
400 out of 2,783 applicants have been shortlisted for the State Counsel II position while 230 out of 5,464, applicants have been selected for the Assistant Office Administrator III position.

On the other hand, the 30 vacancies for the Legal Clerk Assistant IV position attracted a total number of 9,575 applicants of whom only 205 were shortlisted.
The Office of the Attorney General further revealed that Office Assistant III position attracted 15,596 applications of which only saw 200 shortlisted.
The position may have attracted a large number of applications, as the requirement for appointment was a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education certificate with a minimum mean grade of D.
Attorney General Office highlights duties of Office Assistant
According to the November job advertisement, the duties and responsibilities of the Office Assistants include:
- Cleaning offices within the organization’s premises, machines, equipment, and apparatus.
- Maintaining general cleanliness around offices by collecting and disposing of litter.
- Collecting and disposing of waste, including paper, to ensure proper sanitation.
- Dusting office surfaces and ensuring a habitable environment.
- Moving or carrying office equipment and furniture to maintain an orderly arrangement.
- Dispatching letters and files.
- Performing photocopying, scanning, binding, and laminating tasks.
The office of the Attorney General has announced that interviews for the shortlisted 1,035 candidates will be conducted from 10 March 2025 to 21 March 2025.
To view the shortlisted candidates for the various posts, applicants have been directed to visit the OAG & DOJ website www.statelaw.go.ke.
The website also contains details on interview schedules indicating venue, time and date of the interview, and documents to be brought by candidates during the interviews.
