Panel Reveals Number of Kenyans Eyeing IEBC Jobs as Deadline Lapses

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel Chair, Dr. Nelson Makanda has revealed to the public the number of applications received after the deadline.

In a statement on February 16, 2025, the selection panel informed the public that the application process for the positions of Chairperson and members of IEBC ended.

“By the 5 p.m. deadline, we had received a total of 1,848 consisting of applications,” the statement read.

IEBC Reveals Number of Job Applications

Makanda stated that by the close of February 15, 2025, at 5 PM, they had received a total of 1,848 applications from Kenyans.

It consisted of hand delivery applications to the secretariat on the 3rd floor of, the County House Building. The applications were also submitted online and mailed to IEBC.

Additionally, the panel has commenced the process of verification, and they will be issuing a long list that comprises all the names of the applicants.

“The Panel has commenced the process of verification and will be issuing the long list comprising of all the names of the applicants, in accordance with paragraph 3(1) of the First Schedule to the IEBC Act,” the statement read.

Panel Assures the Public

Further, members of the selection panel have assured the public that they are committed to conducting a fair and transparent process, including the applicant’s long list after verification.

In addition, they keep the public informed at the stages of the recruitment process to promote transparency.

Makanda acknowledged members of the 4th Estate for their continued support and coverage of the selection process.

“This Panel wishes to thank members of the 4th Estate for their continued support and coverage of the selection process since we started, we urge you to continue updating Kenyans on the progress of this process,” the statement read.

Selection Panel Announced Jobs 

IEBC announced to Kenyans to apply for the positions of the IEBC Chairperson and Commissioners.

The application was opened on February 1, 2025, with a set deadline of February 15, 2025.

The selection panel assured Kenyans that the recruitment process will be transparent and based on merit.

By the end of 10th February 2025, the selection panel revealed that number of applications received for the positions was 339.
