GDC Declares CEO Position Vacant: Qualifications and How to Apply

The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has announced a vacancy for the position of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

In a job advert dated May 26 by GDC, the Managing Director will be responsible for providing leadership and enhancing the corporate image of the company.

Additionally, the CEO will implement the Board’s resolutions to achieve the company’s strategic goals and objectives.

Geothermal Development Company has advised that all potential candidates make their applications not later than 5:00 p.m. on June 25.

Further, all the applications are to be made through the GDC application link https://jobs.gdc.co.ke.

“Applications should reach the address below strictly through the application link not later than 5.00 pm on 25th June 2026,” part of the advert read.

The company has, however, clarified that the CEO position is open for all qualified candidates and has called upon candidates from the marginalized groups, women, youths, and persons with disabilities to apply.

GDC emphasized that the company does not charge for processing applications.

GDC Requirements for the CEO Position

Candidates interested in the position should have at least 15 years of work experience, with 10 years of the experience being in a management role.

Academically, candidates are required to have a bachelor’s degree and a master’s Degree from an institution recognized in Kenya.

Additionally, the applicant should have completed a leadership course lasting at least 4 weeks.

According to GDC, the candidates should have a professional qualification and membership of a professional body, if applicable, and have proficiency in computer applications.

Further, the candidates should also meet the requirements set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

Potential candidates for the positions will also be required to have strong strategic thinking, analytical, and financial management skills to be eligible for the positions.

Certificate Requirement

  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
  • Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
  • Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
  • Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
  • Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

Leadership Changes

The CEO position at the company follows the departure of the former Managing Director, Paul Ngugi, who was appointed by the former Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Davis Chirchir, in 2023.

Paul Ngugi assumed office on April 24, 2023, as the CEO after joining GDC in 2009 as the General Manager, replacing Jared Othieno, who was previously serving as the CEO from 2020 to 2023.

As of 2026, Stephen Busieney, who previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for CIMERWA Cement Company Limited in Rwanda before joining GDC, has been serving as the acting Managing Director and CEO.
