Kakamega County Announces 3,000 Vacancies Targeting Youth and Women; How to Apply

The Kakamega County Government has announced 3,000 job vacancies targeting youth and women as part of a mass employment initiative.

Governor Fernandes Barasa announced in a statement on Thursday, October 2, while accompanying a formal notice from the County Youth Service and Women Empowerment Program Director, which outlined the application requirements.

According to the notice, the program is designed to engage youth and women in economically viable activities. These will include road maintenance, environmental sanitation, and various hygiene-related services designed to enhance community infrastructure and well-being.

“Pursuant to the Constitution of Kenya 2010 under Article 55, the County Governments Act No. 17 of 2012, and in accordance with the provisions of Section 6 of the Kakamega County Youth and Women Service Act number 5 of 2019, applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the above positions,” reads part of the notice.

Successful applicants will report to the Director of the County Youth Service and Women Empowerment Program. They will be responsible for carrying out a range of duties, including road maintenance, cleaning of market centers, bush clearing, and sentry services.

Additional responsibilities will include maintaining drainage systems, office cleaning, and providing general support services. Any other lawful assignments may be delegated by the Program Director.

Requirements for the Kakamega County jobs and how to apply

To qualify for the program, applicants must meet specific requirements. They must possess a Kenyan national ID card or a valid passport, and must be residents of Kakamega County, specifically within the designated community area.

Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old for youth and between 35 and 55 years old for women. They must also be in good medical condition and physically capable of performing manual tasks.

Candidates are required to pass an aptitude test and must be willing to undergo paramilitary training as part of the program. Applicants must provide copies of their national ID card and sign an undertaking to attend training at County polytechnics for two days per week. Upon successful selection, participants will be required to submit their original documents.

Interested individuals should collect and complete application forms from their respective ward administrators’ offices. The completed forms must be returned to the same offices on or before October 10, 2025.

“My administration remains dedicated to creating and expanding opportunities for our people,” said Governor Barasa.

All successful candidates will be required to provide a police clearance certificate before being admitted to the program. Participants will receive a monthly stipend as part of the engagement. The Kakamega County Government has encouraged persons with disabilities to apply, emphasizing that canvassing will result in automatic disqualification.
