KUCCPS CEO Position Declared Vacant

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has declared the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) vacant.

KUCCPS, under Section 55 of the Universities Act No. 42 of 2012, is mandated to coordinate the placement of government-sponsored students to universities and colleges, disseminate programme information, collect placement data, and provide career guidance services to learners across the country.

The CEO will be responsible to the Placement Board for the day-to-day running of KUCCPS, including the implementation of policies, programmes, and strategies in line with its strategic plan.

The holder of the position will also serve as the Chief Accounting Officer and Secretary to the Board, overseeing the annual placement processes, managing stakeholder relations, and ensuring compliance with public sector regulations and financial management practices.

Requirements for the KUCCPS CEO Position

For appointments to this position, a candidate must have:

  • Served for a cumulative period of fifteen (15) years, five (5) of which must have been at a senior management position
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised institution
  • Master’s Degree from a recognised institution
  • Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognised institution
  • Membership with a relevant professional body, where applicable, and being in good standing
  • Valid practising certificate, where applicable
  • Proficiency in computer applications
  • Demonstrated outstanding managerial and professional competence as reflected in work performance and results

Terms of Service and Remuneration

The Chief Executive Officer will serve for a five-year term, renewable once, based on performance and the mandatory retirement age.

“The remuneration will be determined in accordance with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) guidelines,” their statement noted.

Additional Requirements

In addition, all successful candidates are required to demonstrate high ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism, while also complying with the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

“The Placement Service emphasises that canvassing or providing false information will lead to automatic disqualification,” read part of the notice.

KUCCPS emphasized that all candidates would be accorded equal opportunities, encouraging applications from women, youth, marginalized communities, and persons with disabilities.

“Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted through the postal, email, or telephone details provided,” the notice highlighted.

Background of Outgoing KUCCPS CEO

Agnes Wahome is a Kenyan who has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

She was appointed by the former Cabinet Secretary of Education, George Magoha, in February 2021.

Before her appointment, she served as the acting CEO  of the placement service. 

Agnes Wahome Educational Background

Agnes Wahome holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Communication, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Medical Sociology, both from the University of Nairobi (UoN).

In April 2021, she became the first-ever Kenyan to earn a PhD in Health Communication from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

Furthermore, she is an international scholar and researcher, having received education scholarships from the Dutch Embassy and Sweden’s government agency for Development Cooperation (SIDA).

Her Career as KUCCPS CEO

Agnes Mercy Wahome joined the Education Placement Body as the manager in charge of research and knowledge management.

During her tenure as a manager, she played a pivotal role in developing the essential career guide that helps secondary students find guidance before choosing a career.

Before joining the body, Agnes Wahome worked with international development organisations, including USAID, Oxfam Netherlands (Novib), and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
