The Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation has announced internship opportunities for young graduates under the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project (HoAGW4RP).
In an announcement on September 1, the Ministry of Water said the intern cohort will begin the 12-month program in January 2027, with successful applicants deployed to government agencies and counties implementing the project.
The internship aims to provide graduates with practical work experience.
“The Internship programme is targeting young graduates with a bachelor degree certificates and having obtained the said qualification not more than two (2) years before the date of this advertisement. It is envisaged that the internship program will bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world work as well as prepare the young graduates for successful careers by immersing them in practical work environments.
The internship programme is being coordinated by the Ministry of Water Sanitation and Irrigation (MoWSI) and managed by the Regional Center on Groundwater Resources (RCGW),” read part of the announcement.
Ministry of Water Invites Applications for Graduate Internships
Applicants must be aged between 25 and 35 and have obtained a relevant bachelor’s degree within two years of the date of the advertisement.
Applicants must also not have benefited from another internship program funded by the Government of Kenya and must not have secured formal employment in their area of specialization after graduation.
Eligible fields include geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, natural resources management, civil engineering with a water option, sociology and gender development studies, Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing.
Other eligible areas include ICT and communication, data science, chemistry, hydrometeorology, climate analysis, hydrology, economics, finance and other water-related engineering courses.

Duties and Responsibilities
The interns will undertake duties assigned by their supervisors and mentors, participate in mentorship activities, and document skills acquired during the programme.
They will also be required to participate in quarterly monitoring and evaluation, comply with the rules of their assigned institutions, and may be deployed to relevant workstations in any of the five counties covered by the project.
The internship will run for 12 months and will not be renewable. Interns will receive a monthly stipend in line with applicable government internship guidelines and circulars.
Successful interns will receive certificates upon completion of the programme.
The ministry warned that an internship may be discontinued due to gross or disorderly conduct, unsatisfactory performance, or commission of a criminal offence.
Applicants wishing to terminate their internship must give one month’s notice or submit a written resignation through their supervisor to the head of the public institution where they are posted.

According to the Ministry of Water, applicants can submit the official internship application form, cover letter, copy of national ID, CV, academic certificates, and other supporting documents via [email protected].
Applications should use the subject heading “APPLICATION FOR THE HoAGW4RP INTERNSHIP 2027”.
The application deadline is September 18, 2026.

Selected candidates will be required to provide a valid personal accident insurance cover, Certificate of Good Conduct, KRA PIN certificate, and bank account details before joining the programme.
