Johnson Sakaja has been declared Nairobi governor elect.
Sakaja who was running on a UDA party ticket trounced his main opponent Polycarp Igathe who was seeking the seat on a Jubilee ticket.
Moreover, Sakaja garnered 699,392 votes, whereas Igathe got a total of 573,516 votes.
Nonetheless, Sakaja had been anticipated to win by multiple pollsters who gave him a comfortable lead against Igathe.
Likewise, Polycarp Igathe was making a comeback to active politics after resigning as Nairobi Deputy Governor.
Senator Sakaja had a difficult run for the seat where he battled allegations against the validity of his university degree.
Meanwhile, Orange Democratic Movement’s Edwin Sifuna is the Senator elect of Nairobi.
Additionally, Sifuna was declared the winner on Sunday, August 14, morning.
“I really want to thank the people of Nairobi for honoring me with this particular position, I want to assure you that you know my capacity, you know my abilities and you know my work. Every day I will wake to work for the people of the county of Nairobi,” he said.
Sifuna’s competitor from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Bishop Margaret Wanjiru followed in second with 524,091 votes.
