Biography
Edwin Sifuna is a Kenyan politician who was elected as Nairobi Senator on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket in 2022. The senator served as ODM Secretary General from 2018 to 2026. On February 11, 2026, she was relieved of his duties by the National Executive Committee, with Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo appointed in an acting capacity.
Sifuna’s early education began at Kakamega Township Primary School, and he continued his studies at Musingu High School, where he completed his KCSE exams.
Afterwards, he pursued a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi, graduating in 2006. Subsequently, he obtained his Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law in 2007.
He completed his pupillage at Kairu & McCourt Advocates in Nairobi and was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 2008.
Political Career of Edwin Sifuna
Edwin joined politics in 2013 when he became the Technical/Advisory Committee Member for the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) for three years before joining NASA in the same capacity.
In the 2017 Kenyan general election, he vied for the Kanduyi Constituency; however, he was unsuccessful after being eliminated at the ODM primaries by John Makali.
Sifuna vied for the Nairobi Senatorial seat under Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), in the same year, and came second to Johnson Sakaja, garnering 674,056 votes (42,51%) against 811,826 votes (51,20%).
However, in February 2018, Sifuna was appointed as the Secretary-General of the ODM party, succeeding Ababu Namwamba.
Thereafter, he was elected as the Vice-chair of the Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD) in 2019.
Edwin vied for the Nairobi Senatorial seat in 2022, and secured victory with 716,876. As such, he assumed the position of deputy minority whip in the Senate in February 2023.
Far from politics, he is an active member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and has been part of high-profile legal cases involving politicians associated with the late Raila Odinga.
His presence in Kenyan politics and law is significant, given his career characterized by legal proficiency and political savvy.
