Grace Sugut is a Kenyan athlete who recently gained public attention after taking part in her first marathon race, following in her husband’s footsteps.
She is married to Eliud Kipchoge, the two-time Olympic marathon champion who is widely regarded as one of the greatest marathon runners in history.
In May 2026, she completed her first marathon at the Cape Town Marathon in South Africa, finishing the race in 4:29:59.
She was ranked 2,353rd out of 6,914 women in the event.
Eliud Kipchoge was waiting at the finish line to congratulate her, reversing a memorable moment from 2019 when Grace welcomed him after he completed the INEOS 1:59 Challenge, where he became the first person to run a marathon distance in under two hours under special conditions.
Grace is now set to compete in her second marathon at the NB42K Porto Alegre Marathon in Brazil on July 12, 2026, alongside her husband.
How She Met Eliud Kipchoge
Grace and Eliud Kipchoge first met while growing up in the same neighbourhood and attending the same school.
Although they had known each other for years, their relationship began after Grace’s brother, Amos, one of Kipchoge’s close friends, introduced them.
Speaking in a 2020 interview with the BBC, Grace said she was attracted to Kipchoge’s quiet and humble personality, adding that his discipline on the track is reflected in his family life, where he values punctuality and spending time with their children.
