Azam TV Company Background and History
Said Salim Awadh Bakhresa started the Bakhresa Group in the 1970s with a small restaurant named AZAM in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, after dropping out of school at the age of 14 to sell potato mix.
In 1983, he established Said Salim Bakhresa & Co. Ltd. (SSB), the flagship firm, focusing on food processing amid Tanzania’s privatisation of mills for wheat, rice, and maize.
The group expanded rapidly into milling and beverages, such as Uhai water, in 1998, and into operations across East Africa.
Azam Media Limited, owner of Azam TV, launched in 2013 as the group’s media arm, providing pay-TV via DTH, DTT, and OTT platforms from Dar es Salaam.
It grew to serve Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and beyond, leveraging Bakhresa’s logistics and food infrastructure.
