Cate Waruguru is the former Women Representative of Laikipia County in Kenya. She is recognized for her strong political views and unrelenting passion for politics.

Waruguru has been vocal when advocating and championing the rights of Women and promoting social justice.

Age and Early Life 

Cate Waruguru was born in 1987. She became an orphan after losing her mother to a short illness. 

Young Cate Waruguru would then be raised by her grandmother in a humble beginning as she describes it. 

She has a brother, Mbuthia who has been a pillar and support system throughout her life.  

Education Background of Cate Waruguru 

She endured the challenges in her childhood and eventually sat her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams in Laikipia County but later had issues with joining high school. 

The late Nderitu Gachagua, a Member of Parliament at that time sponsored her Secondary Education. 

She joined Kanyama Secondary School where she did her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. 

She later joined the Karatina Institute of Theological College in 2008 where she attained a Diploma in Theology. 

In 2011-2013, she joined the Kenya Institute of Management, and she graduated with a Diploma in Management.

Additionally, she joined the Institute of Commercial Management in 2013, where she graduated with a Diploma in Public Relations. 

In 2016, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management from Karatina University. 

She has an ongoing master’s degree in science in Knowledge Management and Innovation from the University of Kenya College of Accountancy University. 

Career and Politics 

Cate Waruguru started off as a manager of Nanyuki Access Kenya in 2011-2013. She later was nominated to the County Assembly of Laikipia as Member of County assembly, marking the beginning of her political journey. 

She was elected as a Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Laikipia County in 2013 and went on to serve for five years until 2017.  

In 2017, Cate successfully vied for the Woman Representative seat in Laikipia County, a post she held until 2022. 

She has been vocal throughout her political journey. In the run up to the 2022 polls, Cate stood out due to her fearless stand to stand firm when there was a Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke slogans being used in politics when Jubilee Party was in power. 

During her tenure as a parliamentarian, Cate held various committee positions in the Parliament. She served as the Vice-Chairperson of Members service and Facilities Committee in addition to being a member of the Departmental Committee on Land.
