Nixon Sifuna was born in Bungoma County. While growing up in a rural area, his passion for venturing into Law as a career became more intentional.

Nixon Sifuna has an impressive educational background that has significantly made his career grow to greater heights.
He has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Law, from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
In addition, he has a Master of Philosophy Degree in Law from the University of Nairobi.
He has a bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from the University of Nairobi.
He holds a postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, and he was later admitted to the bar in 1995.
Dr Sifuna has a certificate in Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Audit from Moi University.
He was a visiting scholar, at the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) in Washington DC, USA.
He went on different trainings such as Tax Law, Insolvency law and Maritime Crime, this had a boost on his academic career.
Career Background
He was appointed as a High Court Judge in 2022. His swearing in was at State House and it was witnessed by President William Ruto.
Before his appointment to the High Court, he served at Milimani courts in the Commercial and Tax division.
Nixon Sifuna also practised law for many years. He was an environmental protection lawyer.
Sifuna was also a part-time lecturer and later he served as a Lecturer then a Senior Lecturer and later on an associate Professor at Moi University.
Furthermore, he was a certified external examiner at other Universities.
He registered with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) as a lead expert because he has a rich background in environmental Law and assessment.
He has also served as an Enviromental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Enviromental Audit Practitioner.
He has added responsibilities, as he works as a member of the Anti-corruption Advisory Committee of Kenya’s National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ).

Achievements and Awards
In 2022, Dr. Nixon Sifuna was honoured with the inaugural Africa Development Bank’s (AFDB) Continental Award for Accountability and Integrity. This award was for his outstanding ethical standards that promoted social justice.
Nixon Sifuna as an Environmental Protector
In 2001, Sifuna was arrested and detained overnight over a court case he had filed in order to protect the forests in Eldoret.
However, he was later released without any charges.
In a case involving 500 residents of Chepareria Makutano and Kapenguria in west Pokot, the residents were aggrieved by the construction of the multi-million sewage plant.
The residents decided to seek help from Nixon Sifuna who taught them how to register their complaints with the Independent Resource Mechanism (IRM).
The Independent Resource Mechanism (IRM) later found out that the project was not in compliance with the social environment policies. They later relocated the project.
