Benson Murkomen and Emily Chepkemoi have emerged as the winners of the 2025 Nairobi City Marathon.
Murkomen claimed the men’s 42km title with a time of 2:08:38, while Chepkemoi won the women’s marathon, clocking an impressive 2:21:03. Each winner will take home Ksh 3.5 million in prize money.
Following their outstanding performances, the duo received congratulatory messages from several Kenyans.
Murkomen and Chepkemoi Emerge Winners in Nairobi City Marathon
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris said,
“Hearty congratulations to Benson Murkomen and Emily Chepkemoi, the champions of the 2025 Nairobi City Marathon! Benson claimed the men’s 42km title in 2:08:38, while Emily triumphed in the women’s race with an impressive 2:21:03. Each walks away with Ksh 3.5 million, a reward befitting their remarkable feat. Their victories are a shining testament to Kenya’s enduring excellence in long-distance running.”

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor, Wesley Rotich, said “Congratulations to EMC finest Benson Murkomen from Embobut for winning the Nairobi marathon 42km race.”
Murkomen, who first competed in the Nairobi City Marathon in 2023 and finished in eighth place, staged a remarkable return in 2025 by winning the race along the Expressway. He outran Justus Limo and Albert Kangogo to take the top spot.
He has expressed his intention to use part of his prize money to support and improve his grandmother’s life.
In the women’s marathon, Chepkemoi secured the title after narrowly beating Vivian Jerotich and Lucy Chelele.
About the Marathon
The Nairobi City Marathon, first held in May 2022, is an annual running event held in Nairobi along the expressway.
It includes several categories: the 42 km full marathon, 21 km half marathon, 10 km Expressway Run, and a 4 km fun run. The race route runs along the Nairobi Expressway, with the start and finish at Uhuru Park.
The 2025 edition drew more than 15,000 participants from 75 countries, including athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, China, India, Japan, and the UK.

The marathon offers cash prizes to top finishers, with the winners of the men’s and women’s full marathon each receiving KSh 3.5 million. Prize money is awarded up to the 20th position, and the total prize pool for the full marathon is over KSh 24 million.
The event also incorporates environmental and logistical elements, such as the use of eco-friendly transport and air quality monitoring.
