Sections of the Nairobi Expressway will be temporarily closed for 24 hours, according to an announcement by Moja Expressway, the managing company.
According to a public notice issued on Saturday, July 12, 2025, the sections will be closed on July 13, 2025, at midnight.
“Please note that some sections of the Nairobi Expressway will be temporarily closed throughout Sunday, July 13th, 2025, from 12 am,” read part of the notice.
Moja Expressway explained that the listed sections will be closed to allow for the construction of a pedestrian overpass at Syokimau.
Additionally, the Expressway management has announced that normal traffic flow will resume at midnight on Monday, July 14th, 2025.
Sections of Nairobi Expressway to be Closed
Moja Expressway has advised CBD-bound motorists using the Mlolongo and Syokimau entrances to exit at the SGR interchange and re-enter via the SGR entrance.
At the same time, Mlolongo-bound motorists are advised to use the JKIA exit.
Travellers are advised to plan their journeys carefully, as the closure is likely to cause a significant impact on traffic flow.
The Expressway management has apologized for the inconvenience caused and thanked motorists for choosing the Nairobi Expressway.

KeNHA Issues Traffic Disruption Notice
Meanwhile, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has reminded the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8), near the Syokimau Railway Station, will experience temporary traffic disruption.
The traffic disruption will occur along the Mombasa-bound carriageway from midnight on Saturday, 12th July 2025, to midnight on Sunday, 13th July 2025.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Syokimau Railway Station will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa bound carriageway from Saturday, 12th July 2025 (Midnight) to Sunday, 13th July 2025 (Midnight),” read part of the statement.

Traffic Advisory
KeNHA stated that the disruption is intended to facilitate the installation of fabricated beams for the Syokimau Railway Footbridge.
The Authority urged all motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with traffic marshals and police officers on site to ensure safety and minimize delays.
