Col. (RTD) Dido Ali Raso is a retired military officer and Kenyan politician currently serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Saku Constituency in Marsabit County.

Early Life and Background

Dido Ali Raso was born in Marsabit County in the Borana pastoralist community.

His early schooling was in Marsabit, where he successfully completed his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and secured a placement in secondary school in 1977.

He proceeded to Marsabit Secondary School, where he undertook his O-Level studies from 1978 to 1981, an achievement that was notable at a time when only a small fraction of students from Northern Kenya advanced to higher learning.

In 1982, Raso joined the University of Nairobi, where he studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Education, successfully graduating in 1986.

Military career

After graduating from the University of Nairobi in 1986, Ali Raso opted for a career in uniformed service and was commissioned into the Kenya Police Service, beginning his career as a Cadet Officer.

Between 1987 and 1990, Ali Raso served in various junior officer roles, where he was responsible for law enforcement, security operations, and administrative duties across different regions in Northern Kenya.

In the 1990s, Raso rose through the ranks, eventually serving as a District Officer (DO) in several counties, including Mandera, Isiolo, and Wajir.

He pursued advanced military education, earning a Master of Arts in Defence Studies from King’s College London in 1999, which equipped him with a deep understanding of global security dynamics and military diplomacy.

He later complemented this with an MBA from the Open University in 2003
