Enoch Wambua Kiio is a Kenyan politician and the serving Senator for Kitui County and a member of the Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya (WDM-K).
Early life and education
Enoch Wambua Kiio was born on October 31, 1972, in Kitui County, Kenya, where he spent his formative years.
Between 1992 and 1996, he attended Moi University where he earned a Bachelor of Education in English Literature.
He then completed a Diploma in Planning and Management of Development Studies at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) from 1996 to 1997.
Expanding his expertise in communications, Wambua obtained a Certificate in Mass Communication from the Union of African Journalists in 2001.
He earned a Postgraduate Diploma in American Studies from Smith College, Massachusetts, USA, between 2007 and 2008.

Professional career
Enoch Kiio Wambua began his professional journey in journalism in October 1999, when he joined Kenya Times Media as a trainee sub-editor.
After gaining valuable experience in the newsroom, he was promoted to sub-editor, a position he held until April 2005.
In May 2005, Wambua moved to the Nation Media Group, one of Kenya’s most influential media organizations.
There, he worked as a sub-editor, later rising to the position of associate editor.
Over the next eight years, from 2005 to 2013, he played a significant role in shaping the editorial direction of the publication, ensuring high journalistic standards and guiding young journalists under his mentorship.
Wambua’s career took another leap in 2013 when he joined The Standard Group as a senior editor, and subsequently earned a promotion to managing editor later that same year.
In this capacity, he oversaw major editorial decisions, coordinated newsroom operations, and championed investigative journalism and ethical reporting.
He continued to serve at the Standard Group for five years, maintaining a reputation as a strong advocate for press freedom and responsible media practices.
In August 2018, Wambua made the pivotal decision to transition from journalism to politics and officially resigned from his role at The Standard Group to focus on his political aspirations.
Political career
Enoch Kiio Wambua’s transition from journalism to politics came at a pivotal moment in Kitui County’s political landscape.
After resigning from his senior editorial role at The Standard Group in August 2018, Wambua announced his bid for the Kitui County senatorial seat under the Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya (WDM-K), a key party within the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

In the 2017 general elections, Wambua contested the Senate race on a Wiper ticket and emerged victorious, succeeding the long-serving Senator David Musila, who had shifted focus to the Kitui gubernatorial contest.
During his first term (2017–2022), Wambua established himself as an active legislator and vocal advocate for his constituents.
He was particularly involved in debates on devolution, county resource allocation, and governance reforms.
Wambua sought re-election in the 2022 general elections, again under the Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya banner and secured victory, earning a second consecutive term in the Senate.
In the national arena, Wambua was appointed to the Azimio bipartisan negotiations team following the contested 2022 presidential election results.
As a senator, Wambua has been a strong advocate for policies that promote social development in Kitui County.
Looking ahead, Wambua has set his sights on a higher office. In August 2025, he publicly declared his intention to contest the Kitui gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
