Recha Julius Murgor is a Kenyan politician and the current Senator for West Pokot County under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Early life and education
Julius Murgor was born into the Pokot community in Kenya. His early education was rooted in the traditional herding of cattle, a primary activity of the Pokot people.
However, Julius Murgor did not take to this lifestyle and would often wander into the bush, crafting toys from sticks and rocks.
This lack of interest displeased his father, who arranged for him to attend boarding school as a form of punishment.
Despite the challenges of moving away from his community, Julius excelled academically, managing to skip two grades in elementary school.
Financial constraints posed a challenge during his high school years, but a Canadian benefactor provided the necessary funds for him to complete his education.
His spiritual journey began during this period when a friend from another high school shared the Christian faith with him and Julius became the first believer in his village of approximately 5,000 people.
After high school, Julius attended Kenya Highlands Bible College, where he met a teacher who encouraged him to pursue higher education abroad.
With continued support from his Canadian sponsor, he enrolled at Washington Bible College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree between 1981 and 1985.
He furthered his studies at Trinity International University, obtaining a Master of Arts in Religion and Philosophy between 1985 and 1987.
Equipped with his education and a deep sense of calling, Julius returned to Kenya to serve his community.
Together with his wife, Rachel, he founded the Pokot Outreach Ministry (POM), focusing on evangelism, education, and community development among the Pokot people.
Under his leadership, POM has established orphanages, medical clinics, and educational programs, significantly impacting the lives of the Pokot community.
Professional Career
After completing his Master of Arts in Religion and Philosophy from Trinity International University in 1987, Julius Murgor returned to Kenya with a strong commitment to community service and development.
In 1988, Murgor and his wife, Rachel, founded the Pokot Outreach Ministry (POM) where he served as the Executive Director of the organization from 1988 to 2021.

Under his leadership, POM implemented programs in evangelism, education, orphan care, women’s empowerment, and medical outreach.
Political Career
Julius Murgor entered formal politics in 2007 when he contested and won the parliamentary seat for Kapenguria Constituency on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket. During his tenure as a Member of Parliament from 2007 to 2012, he focused on infrastructure development, education, and community welfare projects in his constituency.
In 2011, Murgor was appointed Assistant Minister for Environment and Mineral Resources, a role in which he contributed to policy formulation and oversight concerning environmental conservation and sustainable resource management in Kenya.
In 2017, he successfully contested the Senate seat for West Pokot County, becoming the third senator representing the county.
He was re-elected in the subsequent term and currently serves under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In the Senate, Murgor has held key committee positions, notably as Chairperson of the Senate Labour Committee, where he oversees labor policies, employment issues, and workers’ rights.
Throughout his political career, Murgor has remained an advocate for his community, focusing on development initiatives, peace-building programs, and social welfare.
