Mercy Makini, also known as Mercy Nyanchera Morara, is a Kenyan businesswoman who came into the public spotlight through her marriage to activist and politician Morara Kebaso.

The couple built their family and business interests together before Kebaso became widely known for his activism and political ambitions.

In September 2026, she publicly addressed the status of her marriage to Kebaso, saying she had privately walked away from the relationship about six months earlier.

Mercy Makini’s Education and Early Life

Mercy Makini studied at Kenyatta University, where she pursued a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education and Teaching and graduated with Second Class Honors (Upper Division).

Nyanchera has kept her life private, and details regarding her age, where she comes from, or other personal details are not publicly disclosed.

In 2024, Morara described her as the mastermind behind their ventures, saying she took charge of some business operations while Kebaso focused on his political activism.

Morara and Mercy reportedly their married life modestly. Kebaso has publicly spoken about starting life with his wife in a single rented room before their financial circumstances improved through business. Their furniture venture later became one of the major enterprises with the family.

Kebaso started Morara Home Furniture after completing his studies and qualifying as a lawyer.

Currently, the business has grown into a major enterprise, and in 2024, it employed dozens of Kenyans across branches in Nairobi, Eldoret and Mombasa.

She is also the CEO of Makini Queens Furniture located at Kamakis Karuguru along Eastern Bypass.

In May 2026, Mercy alleged that intruders targeted the business at night, claiming the individuals arrived carrying petrol.

Mercy has always been described as the key partner in the furniture business journey.

As Kebaso gained national prominence through his videos documenting stalled government projects, Mercy remained involved in the family’s business interests. She also publicly supported her husband’s activism, particularly during the period when his activities attracted political controversy and security concerns.

Mercy Makini and the 2026 Marriage Separation

Mercy and Kebaso have three children, whom Kebaso has publicly identified as Zainah Morara, Garang Morara and MK Junior.

On September 4, Mercy said she had chosen to keep the separation private for six months before deciding to address it publicly.

Nyanchera questioned Kebaso’s statements Kebaso made about their family and raised concerns about his understanding of the children’s day-to-day welfare.

Her remarks followed Kebaso’s public response, in which he acknowledged Mercy as the mother of their three children and asked the public to respect her.

Kebaso has also disputed allegations that he neglected his children, saying he attended school meetings and remained involved in their lives.

Kebaso stated that while he was in China, Mercy transferred the two children to an international school without his consent. He revealed that he previously paid KSh120,000 per term for their schooling, and now, at the international school, the costs rose to about KSh1 million per term.
