Biography

Moses Kiarie Kuria was born in Gatundu, Kiambu county in 1971. He is a prominent Kenyan politician and the former Cabinet Secretary Public Service, Performance Delivery.

He is a prominent figure in Kenyan politics and is well known for his outspoken nature and controversial remarks.

Kuria’s diverse background has significantly influenced his political trajectory and gradually earned him key government positions.

Moses previously pursued a career in the banking sector following his education. Subsequently, he later made the transition into politics.

Early life and Educational Background

Kuria started his primary school education at Githuya in Gatundu, completing in 1983. Later, he went to Ituru secondary school from 1984 to 1987.

Thereafter, he attended Thika High School where he completed his A levels in 1988.

Afterwards, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in commerce at the University of Nairobi, completing his studies and graduating in 1993.

Banking Career of Moses Kuria 

After completing his university degree, Moses set out on a career in the banking industry, as an auditor at Family Finance and Building Society.

He later joined Standard Chartered Bank in 1995 as the Chief Operating Officer. In 1999, before relocating to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

While in the middle east, he worked at one of the world’s largest Islamic banks, Al Rajhi.

His banking career equipped him with valuable experience and a deep understanding of the global economy.

Life in Politics

In 2007, he returned to Kenya from the middle eastern country and served in the late President Mwai Kibaki’s regime as a consultant in his government with regards to matters trade.

He joined Party of National Unity (PNU) as Director of Programs, subsequently clinching the Member of parliament Gatundu south seat in 2014.

In 2017, the CS defended his seat and was re-elected. Kuria vied for Kiambu governor seat in 2022 but lost to Kimani wa Matangi who won on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

On 27 September 2022, he was appointed as Cabinet secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry by President William Ruto.

However, after the October 2023 reshuffle, he was moved to the public service portfolio and was succeeded by Rebecca Miano.
