BIOGRAPHY
Moses Francis Masika Wetang’ula, EGH, MP, is the 8th Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya since 1963.
Wetangula was born in Born in Nalondo Division of the current Bungoma County.
Educational Background
Wetangula attended Nalondo Primary School, Busakala secondary school, Teremi Secondary School, and Friends School Kamusinga before being admitted to the University of Nairobi, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
Life in Politics
He was elected to the position of Speaker on Thursday, 8th September 2022.
Wetangula a Lawyer by profession started his career as a magistrate in 1982. He served as Magistrate in various stations across the country including Kithimani, Machakos, Kisii and Rongo.
He joined politics in 1993 after being nominated to the 7th Parliament (1993-1997).
Between 1997-2013 he served for five terms as Member of the National Assembly representing Sirisia Constituency, and as Senator for Bungoma (2013-2022).
Wetangula has also served in various cabinet positions including Trade and Foreign Affairs during the reign of former President Mwai Kibaki.
He is the party leader of the FORD Kenya party.
