At just 24 years old, Rose Nabi Muthuri achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the youngest person to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Systems from the University of Pretoria’s School of Health Systems and Public Health.

Her achievement was recognised during the university’s virtual spring graduation ceremony, where 147 graduates were honored.

Born in South Africa in 1997 and raised in Kenya, Dr. Muthuri has built an impressive academic track record.

Rose Nabi Educational Background

Rose Nabi earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Systems from the University of Pretoria in South Africa, completing the programme at the School of Health Systems and Public Health between January 2019 and 2021.

Her PhD thesis focused on the importance of improving the mental health and well-being of healthcare workers to help strengthen national health systems.

Her doctoral thesis explored gaps in the well-being of health workers and proposed strategies to strengthen health systems by prioritizing their mental health.

Her Journey to Becoming University of Pretoria’s Youngest PhD Graduate

During a special recognition as the University of Pretoria’s youngest PhD graduate, Rose said the achievement is one of the most significant milestones in her academic career.

She also expressed hope that her journey would inspire other young Africans to pursue similar academic paths.

“I hope this will inspire more young people to pursue their dreams,” she said.
