Meet Kenyan Wanjiku Mwangi, Microsoft’s New Senior Manager

Wanjiku Mwangi is a Kenyan citizen and the new Senior Manager of Corporate Strategy and Development at Microsoft, a position she assumed in August 2025.

Professional Wanjiku Mwangi has advanced from finance and research roles in Africa to senior corporate strategy leadership in the United States.

Her journey shows steady growth through global organisations, backed by a strong academic foundation and cross-continental experience.

Educational background of Wanjiku Mwangi

Wanjiku Mwangi holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, where she earned the Saybrook College Scholar honour in October 2018 for exceptional academic performance and community involvement.

During her time at Yale, she contributed to campus innovation as a Cluster Technician, Coordinator, and later Head Coordinator with the Yale Student Technology Collaborative from October 2019 to May 2022.

She was also involved with the Tsai Centre for Innovative Thinking, gaining exposure to technology and entrepreneurship initiatives.

Career life

Her professional career began in Nairobi at Equity Bank Limited, where she served as a Finance and Relationship Officer from January 2017 to August 2018.

She later became a College Counselling Program Mentor from May 2018 to May 2019, guiding students on academic and career opportunities.

In February 2019, she joined Yale Young African Scholars as an Associate Fellow, working across New Haven, Nairobi, Accra, and Harare until August 2019.

Wanjiku Mwangi expanded her international experience in 2020 as a Summer Analyst with TechnoServe in Johannesburg, South Africa.

From September 2020 to March 2021, she worked as a Research Associate at the Yale School of the Environment’s Carbon Containment Lab, contributing to environmental research.

Her consulting career took shape at Bain & Company in Seattle, where she started as an Associate Consultant Intern from June to August 2021.

Her Career at Microsoft

She returned to Bain as an Associate Consultant from August 2022 to February 2024, sharpening her skills in corporate strategy and development.

In March 2024, Wanjiku joined Microsoft at its Redmond, Washington headquarters as a Manager of Corporate Strategy and Development.

After demonstrating strong leadership and strategic expertise, she was promoted in August 2025 to Senior Manager of Corporate Strategy and Development, the role she currently holds.

Wanjiku Mwangi is among the few Kenyans holding senior leadership roles at Microsoft, joining a distinguished group that includes Catherine Muraga, Managing Director of Microsoft’s Africa Development Centre in Nairobi, and Phyllis Migwi, the company’s Kenya Country Manager, who was appointed in August 2022.

Microsoft Corporation engages in the provision of developing and marketing software and hardware services. Its products include operating systems for computing devices, servers, phones, and intelligent devices.

It also offers server applications for distributed computing environments, productivity applications, business solution applications, desktop and server management tools, software development tools, video games, and online advertising.

It operates through the following segments: Productivity and Business Processes, Intelligent Cloud, and More Personal Computing.
