Role of Salaries and Remuneration Commission

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) plays a pivotal role in Kenya’s governance structure, ensuring fair and sustainable compensation across the public sector.

Established under Article 230(4) of the Kenyan Constitution, 2010, the SRC is tasked with setting and regularly reviewing the remuneration and benefits of all State officers.

Additionally, it advises both national and county governments on the remuneration and benefits of all other public officers.

SRC must ensure that the total public compensation bill remains fiscally sustainable, safeguarding the nation’s economic health. This principle ensures that government spending on salaries does not exceed the country’s financial capabilities, thus promoting economic stability and growth.

Also, the commission under its Chair Lyn Mengich, ensures that remuneration decisions are made openly and equitably, promoting trust and confidence in the public sector.

The SRC’s work is critical in maintaining a balanced and effective public service in Kenya.
