A 20-year-old is among four suspects arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who caught them in possession of Ksh16 million worth of cannabis (bhang).
DCI in a statement on Friday, July 12, said that the four were flashed out of their hideout in Bamburi, Mombasa County, following a sting operation.
“Four suspected drug traffickers have been arrested at their hideout in the Fisheries area of Bamburi in Mombasa County and a recovery of cannabis worth Sh16,621,500 million made,” read part of the statement.
According to DCI, the female Gen-Z was arrested alongside two other women and another 26-year-old male Gen-Z following the intelligence-led operation by detectives from the DCI anti-narcotics unit (ANU) coast region, RCIO coast operations team and officers from Bamburi Police Station.
Responding to a tip-off from vigilant citizens, the officers located the suspects’ house and while therein conducted a meticulous search that unearthed the illegal plant.
Suspects Arrested by DCI Detectives
DCI noted that eight green polythene gunny sacks, eight multi-colored Nigerian bags and a small white polythene bag all containing big khaki rolls of Cannabis sativa weighing 554.05 Kilograms were recovered.

Also detained was a Toyota ISIS model vehicle found parked outside the house which the detectives believe could be proceeds of crime.
DCI added that the suspects together with the recovered narcotics and the motor vehicle were escorted to the Coast Regional Police Headquarters for further legal action.
The arrest comes barely two days after DCI nabbed suspected traffickers posing as traffickers, in turn seizing narcotics in another operation.
The Directorate in a statement on July 10 said that the two suspects were arrested at a bus station in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
According to DCI, the two were nabbed with 17 bales of bhang approximated at Ksh990,000 in street value, moments after disembarking from a bus.

DCI noted that the suspects had alighted a Guardian bus which had travelled from Budalangi, Busia County, before their arrest, which came moments before they boarded a Super Metro Sacco shuttle enroute to Kamulu where they reside.
“Search in their luggage by anti-narcotics officers saw the seizure of the 17 bales weighing 34kgs, hence their arrest,” DCI added.
Bhang Cases on the rise
The arrest adds to a list of cases where suspected traffickers were arrested with illegal narcotics in the month of July. On July 8, a suspected 42-Year-Old man trafficker was arrested while transporting 146kg of bhang along the Kisii-Migori highway.
The suspect was arrested after officers in Kisii County mounted a roadblock at the Iyabe Bomokora area, intercepting a Toyota Land Cruiser TX model vehicle with two occupants.
However, the vehicle’s driver managed to scamper into nearby thickets and ran away after a high-speed chase.
The cornered suspected was caught in possession of six sacks of bhang that were found stashed in their vehicle.
