The National Police Service (NPS) has unveiled police officers who will represent Kenya in the Paris Olympics. These officers will compete from July 26, 2024, to August 11, 2024.
In its 11th issue of the Quarterly Newsletter, the NPS announced that seven athletes, both sportsmen and sportswomen, have been selected to join the Kenyan team for the Paris Olympics.
“The prowess that has been demonstrated by our athletes has been inspirational not only to fellow athletes in the Service but also a motivation to young talents across the country,” reads the newsletter.
“As the Olympics kick off in Paris on 26th July, we wish all the best to the athletes and brace for a medal laden competition void of any injuries.”
7 Police Officers Representing Kenya in Paris Olympics
The officers who will be participating include Corporal Ferdinand Omanyala (100m), Corporal Mary Moraa (400m and 800m) and Corporal Wycliffe Kinyamal (800m).
Others are Police Constable (PC)Beatrice Chebet (5000m and 10,000m), Beatrice Chepkoech (3000m s/c), Abraham Kibiwot (3000m s/c) and Senior Sergeant Julius Yego (Javelin.

NPS stated that the officers have been cleared to participate in various races both locally and globally.
In addition, they have been dedicated ambassadors in supporting the running ‘clean’ campaign avoiding any doping malpractices.
NPS further mentioned that their officers will go to this year’s Olympics having achieved various feats in the ongoing athletics calendar.
PC Beatrice Chebet who will be making her debut in the showpiece is the reigning world record holder in the 10,000 meters, with a time of 28:54.14.
Corporal Ferdinand Omanyala holds the African record in 100m and lands in Paris having notched the second fastest time in the 2024 athletics season and spiced up his preparations with a win in the men’s 100m at the FBK Hengelo Games in the Netherlands.
Wycliffe Kinyamal, on his part, hopes to impress in the 800m race and replicating his Gold-winning performance at the last edition of Commonwealth Games.
Meanwhile, Julius Yego is the African record holder in the Javelin throw.

NPS Praises the Officers
NPS said in the past editions of global events, most recently the World Athletics Championships, the police officers were at the podium bringing glory and honor to our nation.
“In the course of these performances, several virtues have stood out; the hard work, discipline, and most importantly the high level of sportsmanship that has been exhibited by our officers has been undisputed,” NPS said.
“Our officers have recorded exemplary performances both in field and track events that have always awed sports fanatics and have deservedly earned the spot.”
