2022 Presidential candidate Jimi Wanjigi has penned a letter to President William Ruto, calling him out for failing to handle the flood crisis in the country with the seriousness it deserves.
In his letter, Wanjigi repeatedly calls the head of state ‘A Don’t Care Ruto’ blaming him for the extensive destruction and loss of life witnessed in various parts of the country adding that it is disappointing that it has not yet been declared a national disaster.
Additionally, he noted that the government has failed to set up and coordinate rescue and emergency services across the country, meaning that Ruto is either condescending or his government is financially bankrupt.
“I am very disappointed that an inept, incompetent and a don’t care Ruto has not found it necessary to declare the floods a national disaster.
“This presidential indifference to the enormous human suffering of Kenyan people is appalling and horrifying, a don’t care Ruto must unequivocally apologize to the people of Kenya for contemptuously abandoning them in their hour of utmost need,” he states.

Wanjigi Explains How Ruto Has Rendered to Government Bankrupt
At the same time, Wanjigi opined that the disaster had demonstrated to Kenyans that the country is not exceptional saying it was just as vulnerable and fragile.
He explained that the country was in a lot of debt and neither raising taxes nor borrowing could solve the chronic debt problem of the government.
“Our country economy is disastrously sinking fueled by crushing debt. We have been forced into a choice between servicing enormous odious debt or serving our people.
“The debt is painfully killing our country. Because of the debt crunch, this country is out of money to meet even the most urgent need like funding the rescue and emergency services for the flood’s disaster. We have to humiliating take a begging bowl around in order to help our people who are in dire need,” added Wanjigi.

Ruto’s Options
Furthermore, Wanjigi noted that the only way out for Ruto was to stay with his current painful fiscal and tax policies path. Alternatively, he indicated that the head of state could agree to debt default and kick start the process of debt restructuring.
“In agreeing to debt default route, a don’t care Ruto would give breathing space to Kenyans even though initially it would be painful. This will further pave way for independent comprehensive forensic audit and investigation of public debt and allow the country to agree on the necessary radical economic and governance structural reforms.
“In conclusion, Kenya’s economy problem is political problem. A don’t care Ruto is the Main Problem. He ascended to power through political lying and deceit. He lacks political legitimacy,” he adds in the letter.
