An autopsy conducted on the late NTV journalist Rita Tinina’s body has revealed the cause of her death which left many people shocked.
Family spokesperson Timothy Njaga while speaking to the press on March 19, 2024, revealed that the autopsy confirmed that the late Tinina died of severe pneumonia.
Njaga said that the report was provided after a postmortem was done by government pathologist Peter Ndegwa in collaboration with the family pathologist Dr. Michaka.
Furthermore, the family spokesperson who was speaking at Umash Funeral Home said they are satisfied with the results and asked for a moment of privacy as they continued to mourn the deceased.
The veteran journalist was found dead in her house located within Kileleshwa estate, Nairobi on Sunday, March 17, 2024.
At the time, reports indicated that an alarm over her wellbeing was raised after she failed to report to work where she was scheduled to produce a news bulletin on NTV at 1PM.

NTV Confirms the sudden loss
The Nation Media Group confirmed about the sudden demise on the same day through a statement sent to Nation Media Group’s (NMG) staff members, by NMG Editor-In-Chief Joe Ageyo who stated that Rita was fine on the previous day before she was found dead on Sunday morning.
“Team, this morning we received the sad news that our colleague Rita Tinina had passed away in her house. She was expected to be in the office today but did not show up. The information we have so far is that she was fine all of yesterday but unfortunately, was found unresponsive this morning,” the statement read.
A subsequent Police report filed at Kileleshwa Station on the other hand revealed the late NTV journalist’s health status before her shocking demise.

According to the police report seen by The Kenya Times, Tinina’s elder sister Helen Silau Njaga, recorded a statement with the noting that the deceased was suffering from epilepsy and had experienced severe fever before her death.
“She was suffering from epilepsy and had five days old severe fever, her health history which was given by the said sister,” the OB read in part.
Tinina mourned
NMG Editor-in-Chief Joe Ageyo while mourning his longtime colleague reminisced about her remarkable journey and the profound impact on the society.
Tinina and Ageyo’s paths first crossed over two decades ago, when they were both striving to carve their niche in the television industry.
According to Ageyo, Rita’s character painted a portrait of a journalist who embodied unwavering integrity, simplicity, and kindness.
“She embodied simplicity, kindness, grace, humility to an extraordinary degree, impeccable organization, unimpeachable integrity and rock-solid reliability,” he said.
The deceased was a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication/Media Studies degree holder from the University of Nairobi (UoN) and had worked at both NMG and the Standard Media Group Limited where she was a senior reporter at KTN News.
